1. yes it will. 2. each player will have a different key created by the key gen. the way it works is you go attempt to go on to a server with the real key - before it goes past gamestate and loads map you /quit - you get a key from the key gen and replace the real key with it in your rtcwkey file - go back in game and play on the server. im 95% sure this works. havent done it in years but this is how i used to change my guid on 1.3 and ive done it on 1.4 before also. If this works it's awesome ! It means that a lof of people can play with 1 valid key only.

i didnt need a key when i upgraded 1.0 to 1.41. i dl'ed 1.0 from the net too so idk if it matters

Source code for rtcw mp (the most recent version, which is ofcourse 1.41) was released by Id at quakecon 2010 on 12th August. One of the many possible benefits that could come about from the source code release is that the game could potentially become a standalone game, not requiring a cd like say ET
As for the question of valid cd-keys in 1.4, I skimmed over the previous comments not taking alot in, so i'll just dump a few facts about it
- If you have a valid cd-key, it is possible to make any keygen key work, even if the valid cd-key is pb banned. This means that it is possible with that with ANY valid leaked key, every 1.0 player could theoretically play with a unique clean guid - Keygen keys will only work once before you get the invalid cd-key message. Basically after you close the game it will become invalid - You can make "invalid cd-keys" valid again with these steps: 1. Replace invalid key with the original (even pb banned) key 2. Connect to a server with it. You only need to reach the awaiting game state screen, so you may /quit before even loading a map 3. Replace original key with the now valid keygen key
Technically you don't actually need the keygen, but it very quickly and easily makes unique keys with practically no chance of anyone else having the same one. I often used this trick on 1.3/1.4 when I wanted to make myself anonymous, and have also helped a couple of 1.0 players to play 1.4 this way
